WYSE Family History
Recorded as Wise, Wyse, Wisdom, Wiseman, Wisman, and no doubt others, this is an English surname. It is of pre 7th century Anglo-Saxon origin, and derives from a byname applied to a "learned person". Such a person would have been regarded with mingled fear and respect in medieval days, and would have been regularly consulted on legal and other matters. It was occasionally applied to someone acquainted with the occult arts. The word "wise" derives from the Olde English pre 7th Century "wis", meaning "knowing".Select Audience

I would love to find out if there is any connection to the Waterford Wyseโs, the British Thomas Wyse from Devon , who came over with a band of Vikings leader . Who settled in Waterford + Cork . I want to find my great grandparents of Daniel Wyse my grandfather , if Daniel had any brothers or sisters? I was born in Paddington London 15/07/1947 to Michael John Wyse & Mary Margaret Wyse married 1943 . I want my whole Irish family known to me, my Irish roots as far back as you can go. I went back to the 11 th Century but unsure if we are connected to any of these fine Knightsof Kings/ Queens !

John Wyse married Elizabeth Duggan (b. 1810 Wexford), they immigrated to American in 1849 (Princeton, WI).
John Wyse is the grandfather of my great grandfather, Sylvester Dominic Wyse. (Son of William M. Wyse, father of Dorothy Ann Wyse, my grandmother.)??
As our family legend would have it, we are related to the founding father of Waterford, Ireland, Thomas Wyse. I have not been able to find the connection. Any help would be appreciated.??
